What techniques should you use for winning over the delegates when public speaking?
The day has arrived and you need some public speaking confidence. You’ve been introduced to the audience and the subject of your speech has been declared. From this point on, you’re the main focus of attention. You are on your own and all eyes are on you!
This is where you start your performance. It’s not only a question of getting into your speech as fast as possible, but mentally preparing both yourself, and the audience too, for what you are about to communicate.
A sense of the dramatic is known as for.
It is not just a collection of words that you are going to be using ; like any performance itwill involve the utilization of movement, passion, eye contact, dramatic pause, and lots of other methods utilised by actors each day of their working lives.
And this is where the performer in you must rise to the front.
For some folk, this is the toughest part.
They aren’t ‘born actors’ and find that putting on a sense of the dramatic doesnot come naturally. The danger, too, is that by ‘trying too hard’ to be a performer they actually come across as ham actors lacking sincerity and thus losing credibility.
In this regard, everyone has to discover their own comfort area and act in a style that’s both comfy and sounds natural. Getting abest friend or companion to listen through and advise on how you are doing can be invaluable in this regard.
When your name is known as, you want to look calm and collected, yet enthusiastic and excited that youhave been honoured simply by being asked to chat.
When your name is published, you need to walk purposely onto the stage with your head held high, your shoulders back, asmile on your face.
You look round the onlookers. You must wait for silence ; comprehensive silence so we can hear that proverbial pin dropping. Never be fearful of long silences.
They add drama. They heighten strain. And at the very start they add to the expectancy of a star performance.
Now you have engaged the audience and you are building your public speaking confidence.
